Integrative Medicine

Acupuncture

Acupuncture can be used to treat many issues, including chronic pain, inflammation, and neurological conditions. Needles stimulate specific points where nerves and blood vessels meet to trigger the body’s natural healing response and decrease pain. Your pet’s treatment will take between 30 and 60 minutes to complete.

Nutraceuticals, supplements, and herbs can help provide additional support while addressing underlying medical conditions. Products such as Adequan, alongside acupuncture or alone, can help provide additional support while addressing underlying medical conditions. We utilize herbs and supplements from Jing Tang, Kan Essentials, Vetriscience, Ellevet Sciences CBD, and Vet Classics, just to name a few. We do not practice homeopathy.

Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative medicine goes beyond injury or disease management and focuses on helping the body heal itself. Regenerative medicine options can be used alongside traditional therapies to help your pet live their best life.

Class 4 (IV) Laser Therapy

If your pet is recovering from surgery, dealing with chronic pain, or is battling infection,  we can employ Class 4 Laser Therapy to decrease inflammation and reduce the need for medication. We use high-powered light waves to trigger a photochemical process in your pet’s tissues to help injured cells mend or be replaced faster. It takes 10-15 minutes to treat each site of your pet’s pain or inflammation.

Purevet Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

Technician utilizing a microscope while holding a cat wrapped in a blanket

We can provide Purevet Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy as a stand-alone outpatient procedure, or in combination with stem cell therapy. This can be a more affordable option for pain control, saving you money on anti-inflammatories, laser treatments, supplements, and other modalities your pet may currently need to stay comfortable.

How does Platelet Rich Plasma therapy work? PRP is a concentration of platelets, growth factors, and signaling proteins. This powerful anti-inflammatory treatment can be used to treat chronic tendonitis, arthritis, wounds, burns, and post-surgical sites. These proteins prompt your pet’s body to send stem cells where the PRP is injected, which transform to repair that area. Growth factors help bring blood flow to the area to aid healing, decrease inflammation, and provide increased energy to cells as they repair.

What’s the Platelet Rich Plasma therapy process? PRP is processed from a blood draw. It takes about 2 hours to isolate the platelets and activate them prior to joint injections.

How long does it last? The effects of PRP last weeks to months, so it is used for less complicated conditions that need a little more help in healing. PRP can be frozen and readministered as needed for up to 90 days.

Actistem Stem Cell Therapy

Technician in full scrubs with stem cell equipment

How does Actistem stem cell therapy work? We activate your pet’s own  ‘sleeping’ stem cells  that lay dormant in the fat just behind the umbilicus, and inject them where they are needed most.

Stem cells have been proven to help with osteoarthritis pain, disc disease, tendon or ligament tears, hip dysplasia, and other musculoskeletal issues. While Actistem is approved by the FDA for joint diseases, it can be utilized for “compassionate use” in other diseases, such as kidney disease, allergic dermatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, feline stomatitis, and other chronic conditions.

What’s the Stem Cell therapy process? We harvest stem cells from belly fat in approximately 20 minutes under general anesthesia. Other necessary procedures, like dental cleanings and benign mass removals, can take place at the same time. It takes approximately 4-5 hours to separate the stem cells from the fatty tissue and activate them with PRP and special light waves. Then we are ready to perform joint injections and/or IV infusions, depending on the condition being treated.

How long does it last? It can take up to 6 months to see the full effects of the stem cells at work, and results typically  last 18-24 months. Stem cells can be cryogenically preserved so the next time they are used, anesthesia is not necessary.

Ask us how you can cryobank stem cells at the time of spay/neuter for future use!

Why Actistem?

We partner with Ardent Animal Health to process stem cells and PRP in our hospital for 3 main reasons:

  1. Surgery to harvest and process the stem cells, perform joint injections, and complete the IV stem cell + PRP infusion can all be completed in one day. Your pet goes home with you the same evening!

  2. Processing stem cells in our hospital minimizes the stem cells lost in transit, keeping more available for your pet’s inflammatory conditions.

  3. Ardent Animal Health has the highest numbers of stem cells that survive their cryogenic storage for later treatments (more than 90%!)
