Fear Free Preventative Care Exams

$80

We examine your pet with you and wherever they are most comfortable ― often on the floor ― with padded, non-slip surfaces, calming music, and pheromones designed to reduce stress.

Each of our patients receive  positive reinforcement with lots of tasty treats throughout these visits, so please let us know if you or your pet have specific preferences or food allergies. Please bring your pet hungry and feel free to bring any favorite treats or toys from home!

New clients and patients returning for preventative care exams get to raid the “Booty Box” after their appointments!

Veterinary Technician Appointment

$17 $37

As a Fear Free Practice, every member of our staff is Fear Free Certified and trained in safe, gentle handling techniques. We utilize high value treats to your pet looking forward to visiting with us. Every technician appointment happens with you, in the same Fear Free environment as our Preventative Care Exam.

Technician appointments include vaccinations, diagnostics, subcutaneous fluids administration, laser therapy, and other treatments listed in the patient plan prescribed by your vet. We do not require an examination with a veterinarian for vaccination updates, as long as the patient is up-to-date on their  preventative care  exam, as required by Oregon law.

Urgent Care Exam

$90

For existing clients, we keep several slots open every day in case your pet develops sudden medical conditions. When those are filled, our dedicated doctors and staff stay late and work tirelessly to treat additional emergencies.

Any appointments made beyond our daily scheduling capacity are charged an Urgent Care Exam to offset the expense of the additional staff time.

Microchip Placement and Registration

$60

Our HomeAgain microchips contain a Bio-Bond anti-migration feature to help ensure the chip stays where it's implanted. They also tell us your pet’s internal temperature without a thermometer at every visit! Microchips are usually injected in the extra skin between the shoulder blades during an anesthetic procedure, but they can also be placed during a Fear Free Preventative Care Examination or a Veterinary Technician Appointment.

Fear Free Anal Gland Expression

$50

Is your pet doing a lot of scooting on the floor or showing signs of anal irritation? These can be signs of a blocked anal gland duct or anal gland infection. Our technical team can do a thorough expression and let your veterinarian know if there is any reason for concern. Our team applies topical lidocaine gel to help desensitize the area before the procedure and keeps copious notes regarding any unusual discharge or difficulty with expression so we can help determine an underlying cause.

Routine Laboratory Testing Recommendations

Comprehensive Fecal Parasite Screen

$65

A comprehensive fecal parasite screen is recommended annually or anytime your pet develops diarrhea, increased gas, or abdominal cramping. Many intestinal parasites can be transmitted to humans and cause major medical issues.

Our comprehensive fecal parasite screening diagnoses:

  • Roundworm

  • Whipworm

  • Hookworm

  • Tapeworm

  • Giardia

  • Coccidia

  • Salmon Flukes

Our cutting edge screening process detects intestinal worms by antigen testing before they are even laying eggs, identifying twice the number of infections than previous methods.

Tick Disease and Heartworm Testing

Tick Disease and Heartworm Testing Combo - $72.50

According to the Companion Animal Parasite Council, who collects data from all the diagnostic laboratories across the country, tick-borne diseases and heartworm infections are on the rise in the Pacific Northwest.

Tick-borne diseases can cause musculoskeletal pain and blood disorders. They can be hard to diagnose without specific testing, as symptoms are very non-specific and tick bites can go undetected. Our tick-borne disease testing screens for:

  • Ehrlichiosis

  • Anaplasmosis

  • Lyme Disease

Heartworm infections are transmitted through mosquito bites. Portland has a huge rescue community for dogs and cats from high-infection areas (typically the southern United States).

Heartworm testing should be performed before starting a preventative, then annually thereafter. Animals that test positive must be treated appropriately to avoid life-threatening complications. Humans can contract tick-borne diseases and heartworm infections!

Distemper/Parvo Titer Testing

$150.00

To keep your dog protected against the distemper and parvo viruses, we offer titer testing in lieu of vaccination or to evaluate if your dog is a vaccine “nonresponder”. Titer testing cannot be used to check for protection against rabies, bordetella, or leptospirosis.

These tests require a blood draw and can be done as part of our Fear Free Preventative Care Exam, or as a Technician Appointment if your dog has had their annual preventative care exam. Titer testing is typically recommended every 2 years or as recommended by your veterinarian.
